The Director, Health Systems Knowledge & Evaluation (HSKE), plays a pivotal role in answering these questions. This is a unique opportunity for a strategic, visionary leader to guide a highly skilled provincial team that empowers clinicians, leaders, policy makers, and partners to find, generate, share, and apply evidence to improve clinical practice, patient experience, and health system performance. Health Systems Knowledge & Evaluation is a provincial team of more than 50 professionals spanning diverse disciplines—including those with PhDs, master’s level training, clinical backgrounds, and applied research and evaluation expertise. Together, the team applies a range of research, evaluation, knowledge management, and evidence translation approaches to help program leaders: Understand the value, impact, and effectiveness of initiatives across Acute Care Alberta (ACA). Access and apply high quality evidence to inform decisions. Support continuous improvement and organizational learning. Build capacity for evidence informed practice across the system.
Description:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Partnerships and Innovation, the Director, HSKE lead a dynamic and diverse team to address the evidence needs of leaders and clinicians across ACA and the organizations it oversees and coordinates. The Director: Leads strategic alignment: Ensures the team’s expertise and resources are directed to the evolving strategic priorities of Acute Care Alberta. Builds and develops people Strengthens the team by anticipating and preparing for future evaluation, analytics, and knowledge management needs in an increasingly digital, integrated health system. Cultivates relationships and influence: Engages deeply with ACA leaders to understand their priorities and ensure HSKE consistently delivers the evidence products and insights they require. Represents the portfolio across provincial and national networks, building partnerships that enhance ACA’s evaluation and learning capacity. Ensures system alignment: Embeds Acute Care Alberta’s mission, values, and Health Plan and Business Plan objectives into all HSKE activities. Maintains strong, collaborative relationships across all Provincial Health Administration (PHA) portfolios, external health partners, and government stakeholders. Master’s degree, or equivalence of training and experience, in a health or social science-related field. A minimum of 5 years in a management and/or related role in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Progressive leadership experience over a period of at least 2-3 years in a health care environment. Evaluation and/or research experience, with appropriate designations and/or certifications/training. Knowledge and demonstrated application of knowledge management theories, practices and goals and/or knowledge of scientific concepts and principles pertaining to evaluation/research methods and theory. Knowledge and demonstrated application of business planning, and project management theories, principles and practices. Extensive experience in particularly in managing and developing a diverse team of professional staff. Effective communicator with strong organizational and influential skills and is client focused with a commitment to providing quality services. Proven leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and mentoring and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. The ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. The ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment, including cost recovery of eligible services.
Preferred Qualifications:
Have a proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals. Have a strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal collaborators and diverse external stakeholders, including patients and families. Have excellent analytical and decision-making skill. Health care experience an asset.
