Description:

The Director, Clinical Appropriateness (CA) and Quality Patient Safety Education (QPSE) plays a key role in the Quality Management & Improvement portfolio and reports to the Senior Director, Quality & Safety. The Director leads a team of Senior Project Managers, Senior Practice Consultants, Senior Educational Consultants, Senior Analysts (Systems), Media Producers, and Educational and Administrative Coordinators. This role supports the Senior Director in advancing organizational strategic priorities through leadership, planning, performance monitoring, and implementation of initiatives that improve health outcomes and system performance. Key accountabilities include advancing the awareness, integration, and operationalization of Clinical Appropriateness through Right Care Alberta and the ACA Quality & Safety Management System; enhancing the adoption, standardization, and accessibility of Quality and Patient Safety education across Alberta; fostering a high-performing team culture; ensuring effective budget stewardship through sound fiscal management; and supporting emerging ACA and health system priorities. The Director provides strategic and operational leadership to quality improvement, health outcomes, and transformation initiatives in the short, medium, and long term. This position collaborates with teams across Quality Management & Improvement, ACA Service Delivery Oversight, ACA Clinical Programs, Health Shared Services Analytics, Strategic Value Office, AHS Quality Health Improvement, provincial programs, and Alberta Health System partners to improve quality and health outcomes. The role also works with external organizations including Choosing Wisely Canada, the Physician Learning Program, Health Quality Alberta, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and Canadian educational institutions.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Graduate degree in healthcare management, business administration or a related healthcare field required. A minimum of 3-5 years experience in a leadership role involving management of large and diverse range of functions, preferably in a healthcare setting. Experience, Skills and Competencies: Minimum 3-5 years. Leadership experience in a healthcare environment, including experience in a management role of clinical services or operations and/or processes and quality improvement areas. Experience in strategy, policy development, leadership, project and program management, process/quality improvement, and spread and scale approaches. Experience in adult education design and delivery. Uses strategic thinking, considering long-term goals assessing options and implications – and is able to translate this into operational and tactical implementation actions. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional education and at least 3 years experience in quality improvement will be deemed an asset. A master level degree will be seen as an asset. AIW (Alberta Healthcare Improvement Way) education. Demonstrated experience in strategic planning. Prosci Certified Change Manager. Previous exposure working with and designing Quality Management Systems for an organization.
