Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Director of Process Improvement, this senior role offers the chance to lead impactful, system level improvement work across Acute Care Alberta (ACA). As a trusted partner to operational and clinical teams, you will guide leaders, physicians, and frontline staff in applying proven improvement methodologies to strengthen care delivery across multiple programs and sites. You’ll support ACA’s strategic priorities by facilitating meaningful change, mentoring others in improvement practices, and helping teams implement solutions that deliver measurable results for patients and the health system.
Description:
The Senior Process Improvement (PI) Consultant provides expert facilitation, coaching, and analytical support to advance ACA initiatives and strategic priorities. This role scopes and manages improvement projects, conducts current‑state assessments, applies Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, and supports value‑stream redesign across clinical areas such as Emergency, Medicine, and Surgery. The Consultant develops project plans and timelines (typically six to twelve months), analyzes performance data, identifies improvement opportunities, and guides teams through implementation and sustainability practices. The role includes delivering training to large groups (up to 100 participants), including advanced PI tools, AIW fundamentals, and Greenbelt curriculum. The Consultant also mentors quality improvement resources and operational champions, building their capability to lead increasingly complex work and independent improvement initiatives. Working collaboratively with leaders, physicians, and frontline teams, the Consultant facilitates change processes, develops strong working relationships, and shares accountability with operations for achieving impact metrics. The position supports larger system‑wide improvement efforts and may require up to 10% provincial travel.

Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, Engineering, or Business Administration (equivalent combination of education and clinical experience may be considered). Minimum 5 years general business experience, preferably in the service or manufacturing sectors. Minimum 3 years using improvement methods and tools in a leading role. Expertise in utilizing and providing coaching in improvement tools and methods including but not limited to: VSM, DMAIC, 5S, Visual Management, Flow and Load Balancing.
Additional Required Qualifications:As required.
Preferred Qualifications:Master’s Degree preferred. Quality improvement certification/designations such as Lean, Six Sigma Black Belt, LSS, IHI Improvement Advisor, etc. (Black Belt or equivalent designation; equivalencies will be considered).
