Your Opportunity:

As a Drug Formulary, Stewardship, and Grants Pharmacist, you will play a pivotal role in shaping medication policy and practice across Alberta’s health system. This position is at the forefront of system-level decision-making, driving initiatives that ensure safe, effective, and fiscally responsible medication use for all Albertans. Working within Pharmacy Alberta and in collaboration with provincial partners, you will lead evidence-informed strategies that influence formulary management, medication stewardship, and specialized drug funding programs. Your work will directly support health system performance, quality improvement, and innovation, aligning formulary decisions and stewardship initiatives with provincial health priorities, clinical guidelines, and budgetary goals. From providing critical appraisal of clinical and pharmacoeconomic evidence to designing and monitoring provincial stewardship programs, you will champion best practices that optimize medication use and improve patient outcomes. You will also manage high-impact grant programs for exceptional and high-cost therapies, ensuring equitable access while maintaining sustainability. This is a unique opportunity to shape policy, influence prescribing behaviors, and collaborate with stakeholders across government, health agencies, and clinical teams—all with the goal of advancing a patient-centered, integrated, and high-performing health system. This position can be located anywhere in Alberta. The successful candidate for this position may work remotely from home or options for office space at any designated ACA site location in Alberta may be discussed at the time of appointment.

Description:

As a Pharmacist I, you will be responsible for the safe, effective and efficient preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical services. You will manage medication therapy for patients, both initially and on an ongoing basis. In addition, you will provide assessment, intervention and resolution of potential or actual drug-related problems and oversee activities related to compounding and packaging.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years of experience in clinical pharmacy, drug policy, or formulary management, preferably in a health authority, government, or regulatory setting. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to varied audiences. Effective collaboration and consensus-building skills with multidisciplinary teams. Proven ability to foster partnerships with stakeholders inside and outside of Pharmacy. High degree of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to health equity, and evidence-based practice. Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage change. Ability to translate complex concepts into understandable components. Ability to prioritize workload and multiple projects on an ongoing basis to meet the needs of a dynamic work environment. Project management skills to plan, develop and implement new programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in drug evaluation, health technology assessment or pharmacoeconomic analysis. Proficiency in data analysis tools (i.e., Excel, statistical software) and familiarity with drug utilization data. Experience with Epic analysis tools (e.g. Slicer-Dicer). Strong analytical skills and ability to critically appraise clinical and pharmacoeconomic literature. Demonstrated abilities in research and/or scholarly activity.
