Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Practice Standards and Safety, the Clinical Practice and Safety Lead (CPSL) is responsible for leading, establishing, implementing, and monitoring standards in clinical pharmacy and safe medication distribution practices. This role also maintains active practice in a clinical area. The CPSL is an expert practitioner who provides leadership in developing, evaluating, and sustaining standards and projects that standardize, optimize, and advance clinical practice and distribution systems across Acute Care Alberta, Provincial Health Corporations (e.g. AHS, Cancer Care Alberta), and the Provincial Health Agencies: Assisted Living Alberta, Primary Care Alberta, and Recovery Alberta. Key functions include: Development and implementation of clinical standards and performance metrics for Health Service Provider organizations, with ongoing monitoring to ensure compliance and best practices. Integration of safety into all aspects of pharmacy practice, prioritizing staff and patient safety. Staying current with national and international pharmacy standards and literature to drive innovation within Pharmacy Alberta. Assess and develop workforce standards for clinical practice to inform capacity planning and future needs. Evaluate clinical and safety implications of medication records, clinical guidance documents, and care pathways. The CPSL applies deep expertise in pharmacy clinical practice and distribution safety to serve as a resource across all health organizations promoting excellence in pharmacy operations. In this capacity, the role drives innovation by identifying solutions to advance clinical practice and provides leadership on medication safety through system-based approaches that reduce patient harm. The CPSL acts as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders, fostering collaboration and ensuring alignment with best practices.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Baccalaureate or entry level Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a recognized School of Pharmacy. Completion of a hospital residency OR Post-baccalaureate degree in clinical pharmacy. An equivalent combination of baccalaureate degree and greater than 5 years of clinical experience may be considered. Registration on the Clinical Register of the Alberta College of Pharmacy Proven ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care. Skilled in coaching, mentoring, and inspiring confidence in others. In-depth knowledge of best pharmacy practices and medication safety standards across Alberta and Canada. Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects in a dynamic environment. Advanced verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences. Ability to perform under pressure in fast-paced settings, making sound decisions amid frequent interruptions. Highly self-directed, organized, and adaptable to meet the changing needs of the population served.

Preferred Qualifications:

Membership in The Canadian Society of Health-System Pharmacy. Experience in direct patient care in past 5 years. Experience as medication safety officer. Practitioner Identification Number. Additional Prescribing Authorization. Ability to foster partnerships inside and outside Pharmacy. Ability to think in abstract concepts and simplify complex concepts into clear, actionable components. Strong leadership in driving and managing organizational change. Project management proficiency.
